Yes, bend it hot so it sticks out far enough for the rod to clear the exhaust, or find a non tapered ball joint and drill/ream the taper out of the arm. Lots of non tapered ball joints out there, or fit a rose joint instead.

what thread is it?The problem is finding the threads to match the steering rod. It is a question of juggling parts, as I never noticed the taper was on the opposite side and thought it would easy enough to use all Landrover parts.
Bump steer will there, but better than the original set up, which had the steering arm pointing upwards, and was some horrible Anglia steering box clamped in place with grub screws. Hard to believe this car has been on the road since 1985.
