Reverse on a lathe does have its uses, right hand tooling upside down in reverse doing the same job as left hand tooling for one.

I use an Eccentric Engineering parting tool in my lathe. You run the lathe in reverse. The chips fall out rather than building up. My Boxford has a D3 chuck mount.

A D3? How is it attached to the spindle?

Sorry I meant D1-3. Three cams in the nose piece tighten on the waisted area of the pins.

Yes, mine's Boxford STS, bought from a school closing its workshop. Lathe, Naerok pillar drill and Ajax donkey saw for £500.
