I was asked today to reverse a small ac induction motor for a pump, it only had live and neutral connection so no access to the windings directly.
After opening it up I was able to get to the windings and rewire it. In researching the job I came across this web site which has lots of good pages on motors and how the different types work.
Worth bookmarking if you ever have to deal with motors.

The job was for our mechanical workshop manager so great for building up points for when I need another homer.
