Reverse osmosis water treatment

Serious question. Do you get her to sign any sort of disclaimer in case she develops some sort of lurgy in the future and tries to blame [i.e......sue ] you and/or your installation, given that it's she who is insisting on the supply being fit for drinking?

Yes, and having it tested independently before its allowed to be used

I look after a few high end systems.
My thoughts
You have to run them 24/7
You will throw 20%ish of your water away.
Just be certain you need such a good system
Proper RO water isn't drinkable until it has stuff put back in.
Usually have Pre filter, Softeners, Carbon filters, final filter to take any carbon out then to the RO, then UV lamp

I've quoted this but others seem to be saying the same, reverse osmosis maybe overkill? and a decent normal filtration setup is the way to go?

RO water is aggressive to copper as well,
RO water is close to distilled water, I used to use it for my domestic and topping up my aquarium water , . Used to get 0.2 tds from rwo membranes piggy backed,
Two pre filters, 10 micron. 5 micron membrane, pre filter , two storage tanks gave enough filtered water for a house of four ,
RO waters not the best tasting water,
It's not rocket science, pure water has small molecules that pass through the membrain at pressure, dirty water won't pass and gets flushed ,
Uv lights gan be expensive , needs to be matched to the bore pump

I would wait till it's been tested, there is every chance you won't need any of the filtration and personally once you start messing with it too much you will lose the benefits of the well water for drinking.

One thing I would say is use the mains for things like toilets and washing machine. If you get a stuck toilet valve it will run the well dry pretty quick. There will be more scale for sure generated from the well.

I would just get them to sign an agreement that future testing of the water will be required and it's not you responsibilty.

Where do you think tap water comes from?

I know where it comes from but mains water could not be more different to well water. We have both and whilst our mains water is good compared to the well water it smells like a swimming pool.

I thought domestic water was run through sand filters then uv ,
I've seen RO systems as well in utility water plants ,
My local water has failed a few times on quality,
They used to dose chlorine on a sun night in the NW , if you ran a bath on sun night the evaporated fumes would strip the lining from your lungs,

I would harvest rain water to flush the bogs

I’m installing a non permanently connected manual bypass for the toilets and washing machine

The mains water is terrible, very hard so it will need some treatment. I’ve proposed basic filtering and connection to the toilets etc then testing before we do anything with the drinking side, it will only be one tap, installed in the services cupboard
