This is only a future project at the moment - my lathe is 250miles away, and i need to rebuild the garage.
But...
I have a couple of NEMA 34 steppers about somwhere, and, IIRC, some drivers to go with them.
I could knock up a buffer board, and find a power supply, so then, am thinking, id just need to mount them somewhere, and run something like mach3.
But is it really that simple? Have any of you done this before?
If it makes any difference, the lathe is a smart and brown model M, like this picture -
Its looking, to me, as if the hardest part of the whole thing would be physically mounting / coupling up the steppers, in such a way that the lathe would still be usable with them powered down (as in would still be convenient to use manually)
Any photos of your own conversions?
