Get a tap in wrong and you'll no longer have a thread. Way overkill sometimes when you simply want to clean dirt out.
A hacksaw cut on a bolt/nut is a good method to clean threads without . .h
only real solution to a stripped picked up thread, is helicoil or bronze insert

Mine gets used all the time. The Snap On ones are much better than the Neilson ones which strip themselves as soon as they meet a bad thread.bloody hell I am glad I purchased this kit now it paid for itself this weekend!
That's what sheds are for![]()
Back in the 1970s one of my workmates had an Edwards (or Edwardes) bolt saver. It was two pieces of steel clamped together with a row of different sized tapped holes at the join. Un-clamped it could be put on a bolt part way down, clamped up, and the bolt wound out, or it could be used as a split die (for thread improvement). Wonderful piece of kit, never seen one since.
