Everything can be fixed or repaired. It takes time and a little patients. An interesting rebuild fizzy.
Indeed and if this was a motorcycle, I'd be more convinced it could be worth the effort. But a motorcycle is not a precision machine, at least none of mine are. So long as they hold together and are functional, they can be brought back to life. I used to restore impossibly broken machines and write offs all the time but even the minor cases would often reveal deeper levels of damage than at first glance. A "slightly crashed" machine might require a frame swap but half way through the restoration you'd discover virtually every single component had picked up a little bit of damage. A bent bracket here and there, a few cracks, scuffed surfaces and components which fall to pieces as you removed them. Then if you were lucky you would eventually restore it to its original pre-crashed condition and it would still be a tired old machine showing its age...
With the above, the headline damage looks terrifying. Sure the lead screw(s) can be straightened but look at the angle of the table, there's enough of the precision ways cracked off to allow that much movement. Those major castings need to be repaired to a level of precision and you may find everything that was attached will also have picked up damage. Chances are you'll be needing a donor machine to rob for parts and it's quite likely the donor machine will be in a darned site better condition than this one.
You're a brave man fizzy. it will be an interesting thread to follow, I just hope it leads somewhere.
