Repositioning a gas meter in a kitchen advice.

Are all registered `gas safe` engineers allowed to reposition a gas meter, or does it have to be done by an employee of the energy provider?

Also, what is the going rate for this job assuming the reposition is about 4 feet away from the original position? Thanks.

I think you'd need both - 'gas safe' to do the consumer side and whoever Transco have morphed into to do the distribution side.

Only the dno or their approved contractors can move the meter, they won’t do the reconnecting after, you need a gas safe wally as well.

Tea, lots of tea - and biscuits.

I would imagine it's quite 'involved' as they would want to survey, cost and quote. They won't just rock up, shorten / lengthen the pipe, move the meter and drive off..... You really need to get in touch with them, their pricing structure isn't guessable.

cost depends on what pipe comes in to the house. is it steel or plastic are the floors wood or concrete

Someone with MET1 or MET4 ACS can move a meter, however the original ECV has to remain in place and a secondary one installed at the meter

Nothing to do with Transco or Cadent after the ecv

Mate, in late 70's, had a house with the gas meter in the front porch. This porch was in a poor state to they had it rebuilt. Whilst building work was being done the meter reader turned up and said he wanted to take a reading. Mate told him to look on the front lawn where the meter had been placed out of the way

i was doing a db change . took the mains tails out and stuck a double socket on a bit of 2.5mm in to the meter to use the drill. leccy board turned up to read meter and saw it i just said you timed that rite mate .he wasnt to bothered took the reading and left . what could he actualy do apart from give himself a load of grief and get nowhere with it i wasnt bothered
