replacment earth clamp for mig

my clap on my clark is weak and thinking of replacing it

are the cheapy £5 clamps any good

First one will be fine. It states it's rated up to 300amps

I don't see the point in spending £5 and waiting for it to arrive from China when you can get them delivered from the UK £4. They are probably less then £10 from a local supplies place.

I believe in spending a few more quid on earth/return clamps, The first one at least has a strap between the two legs, but quite often on the cheaper ones the two curved "copper" contact points are only copper plated.

I have the same type of one in the first link rated at 200 amp , for my Clarke mig,works great and miles better than the one it came with

Firstly, the first clamp is a decent quality clamp as it has the copper jaws for a good connection and you connect your earth cable to the copper bolt for a direct connection through the braided bridge for both sides of the clamp to earth.

Second one looks like the poor quality crocodile clip type which are rubbish.

I have these on my welder, I've fitted Dinze connectors front and rear so I can move the cable or even run 2. Not cheap but they are really good

Would still find a way to connect a braided cable between the 2 halves

Dont always blame the clamp,the cable itself can just be at fault

yes as above but just looking at a clamp as mine is not not clamping right unless itas a larger piece of metal

Make my own earth clamps, couple of pieces of ms flat, hinge in middle, compression spring on squeeze end, few tacks with stainless steel rod or wire on contact tips. Yes there should be a copper strip connecting the 2 sides but i don't bother with it, make sure the side with the cable connected is the main contact one.
