Works out the same price wise for 25m when you add the delivery but you can go and get this locally at 19:00 or on a Sunday

Grab yourself a couple of plugs and some double rubber sockets and make a couple of extension leads with the rest

Didn't Black and Decker have these on their grinders donkeys years ago?

I have one of those grinders too and the cable is damaged at the connector, it would be cheaper to buy a new grinder than a new cable even that should be a nice easy option.

That's very generous, thank you , but I'm planning on doing 3 x grinders, 2 x saws plus some other bits & pieces like sander etc. so I think I'll just work out how much I need and order your recommendation in the previous post(s). At 0.64p per metre it's not going to break the bank and if I have the cable to hand it'll bump the job(s) up the 'project' list. Not to mention saving me from swearing.......

I've mentioned this before on here, I'm sure:
I cut all my cables really short, and fit a blue, locking, commando plug.
I've made up half a dozen adaptor extensions - three pin 13a plug on one end commando
socket on the other.

It means I can quickly swap between tools when I only have one extension on a job.
Makes em less enticing to steal. Don't get
asked to lend them out as often.

The only issue with that is if they got plugged into the 16 amp or 20 plus they were developed for. You would have too high a rating and no 13 amp fuse
In a way it's like using red three phase type on single phase tools or 110 v on 240 v

I do have 16 amp to 13 amp socket and 13 amp to 16 amp. For use on site when no 16 amp is available. Just think other mixing is better avoided as per above personally

Check the tool and see if if it is a Class 2 appliance not requiring an Earth cable, makes H07 cheaper.

I think it's unobtanium but the cable used on hilti tools is the best I've come across , was neither rubber or pvc

Ive got to admit, im a little concerned - i think ill make up a short commando extension with an inline fuse holder.

I don't get why you are re- inventing the wheel on this one.
Guys who run off generators generally use a 16 amp male plug in with a 13 amp commando female and use std male plugs on thier tools
I do the reverse mobile welding from household 13 amp

Given the option I run 110 v off a transformer which as well as less voltage has a trip at the transformer

My reasons:
I only need one extension, and there's no other trailing leads to tangle (which solves the OP's issue)
People don't ask to borrow them - "a refusal often offends"
Less tempting to steal - and easy to identify if they are.
The connector "locks" so it doesn't pull apart leaving me at the top of a scaffolding tower with no power.
Plus i got a sackfull of male and female commandos for a fiver at an auction

Putting a 32A fuse inline will be pointless, there's already a 32A fuse (or should be) in the board.

Remember, the fuse isn't to protect you, it takes less than 50mA (0.05A) to kill you...

I was actually thinking a 13a fuse - possibly with a RCD as well.

I am a welder not a spark. However just looked at a newish makita 240 v hand grinder with a sealed plug and yep it's gotten a 13 amp in it
Suppose you might have to ask them at makita

My 'recommendation' is based on electrical theory, not based on what a random manufacturer decides to fit without thinking after they bulk bought 4,000,000 preassembled flexes from china.

Many years ago I bought a desk lamp that was prefitted with flex barely bigger than 7/02, still had a 13A fuse in it... Doesn't make it right or safe.


As an aside, my dewalt 4.5" grinder has a 5A fuse in - I bought it new and never changed it - same deal with those cheapydeap b&q specials.

Looks like the people who made an £8 b&q disposable grinder cared more than makita

I tend to check what fuse is fitted when I get something new and you're right, some stuff is "over fused" so I put the correct one in based on theory.

Absolutely. The amount of 13A fuses in wire that looks incapable of holding 2g of weight is scary.
