Replacing chimney breast lintel

I think I am going to cut the old lintel down and leave two end blocks in place to sit the new lintel on.

Pleased to report nothing moved other than was intended.

I’m actually now wondering if I’ve gone a bit too high and that the little stove might look lost in such a big opening but as I’ve not yet fitted the lintel I can always lower it if necessary.

if your too high look for a decent size lintel and build above it

i did this to burdekins

I lowered a lintle recently. Wasn't sure about the height so I mocked the stove up with a cardboard box and lowered another bit of card in place of the lintle. I think what looks right will depend on the rest of the dimensions as well as you own taste.

I don’t think they are but I’m happier with them there.
