maybe its like the renault , was it the 27 or the 4 , where the gearbox is the first thing you meet after the radiator and the engines beside the bulkhead.Whatever fwd engine you put in there will have its own gearbox and you fab driveshafts to suit... I don't see the problem here
oh, I see, so basically you have to use the existing gearbox/transaxle? What a faff. Is there no room to mount it transverse?@Munkul The engine is longitudinally mounted, and diff is forward of the engine, technically they are mid engined. So a conventional engine and gearbox would spin the wheels the wrong way.
A 911 engine and gearbox would suit it nicely![]()
Or an Audi - v6...@Munkul The engine is longitudinally mounted, and diff is forward of the engine, technically they are mid engined. So a conventional engine and gearbox would spin the wheels the wrong way.

Ive been looking at a 911 recently ,,, more I look at their engine issues , the less I want one.@Munkul The engine is longitudinally mounted, and diff is forward of the engine, technically they are mid engined. So a conventional engine and gearbox would spin the wheels the wrong way.

I guess it depends on how much space there is under the very long but curvy bonnet. The majority of drive shafts come out of a transverse engine behind it, and there may not be sufficient head room for that arrangement. Not to mention the suspension and cooling at the front.oh, I see, so basically you have to use the existing gearbox/transaxle? What a faff. Is there no room to mount it transverse?
Pug 1700 hdi, half way leant over anyway...Another crazy idea might be to dry sump a transverse engine and lay it over at 45 degrees or more so you clear the bonnet and bulkhead. You might not have the width though…
Yes but you can flip the diff...I guess it depends on how much space there is under the very long but curvy bonnet. @minimutly arent they still longitudinal, and have a bit of a clever diff arrangement behind the engine for the 4wd? I think even the front wheel drive Audis have what looks like a rwd gearbox with the drive shafts coming out behind the engine? Don’t quote me on this though!!
