My 2007 Toyota Yaris diesel has been with me for a long time now, almost 400,000km on the odometer. It failed to pass the last inspection however. I knew I had some surface rust on the sheet metal, but I apparently have structural problems now too. I always thought it was sound in the frame at least...
It's like the rust has been invisible under there and not until it got bad enough that the inspections guy could do that with a hammer did I know about it.
I cannot fix this myself, if I had a way to lift the car up high enough I believe I could weld this. Cut away the rot, clean and weld. But I can't do it without a lift, I tried and it's just not possible. So I am taking the car to my local mechanic and asking him if he could fix it and what it might cost.
Then I have to weigh up what to do, send the car to the scrapper or pay to fix, assuming it's doable.
I guess I don't have an actual question, just want to complain. My trusty old car.
