I have a single cylinder motorcycle with a fairly rusty exhaust full of holes, I'd like to repair it before the MOT. There are no replacements available at least not at a price I can afford (it is a Grey import).
I have a tig welder for the welding but I'm not sure how to proceed. My idea is to patch and then paint with high-temp paint. I thought I would wrap the can with a piece of thin steel welded at both ends and along the seam but I'm not sure how thick it should be.
The other issue is that close to the manifold the pipe seems to have two layers, the outer is rusted through, is this normal to have two layers or signs of a previous repair?
I can't slide any new pipe over to tidy it up so I guess I will have to patch it the best I can with sections of pipe cut in half length ways.
Any ideas appreciated.
