Repair ideas or spares wanted for Ransomes Ajax V lawn mower

Hi. Any suggestions for getting this vintage mower back into service?

The support arm on a Ransomes Ajax Mk V has snapped, can it be alloy welded (any volunteers?) or any ideas where to find a new or used replacement ?
Storage space is limited so buying another machine for parts isn't an option.


Something like a home-made / laser cut plate with a boss welded on might work but would be a shame as the rest of the machine is original.

Looks like it was originally cast and would be quite simple to redo as a sand casting.

Looks a little too large for my kit particually with furnace out of action but it could be bodged back into use for alu temperatures.

What does the part weigh?

The offer is very much appreciated

The machine belongs to a friend, I'll ask him for approx weight if he can't find a used spare.
It is also a support for the grass collection bin so the loads and stress are more than if it was just holding the axle in place.

if made properly with mild steel plate and a welded boss under the correct colour of paint nobody would know.....but u wont get the years old finish to the paint....
make 2 so u have a matching pair.....
thats if u cant find a used replacement.......
gone are the days of old spares laying around everywhere.....
the Piky's have had it all......
lastly anything old that u want to keep standard costs money now......

Somebody who knows how to weld alloy is going to look at it tomorrow and hopefully magic it back into 1 piece

Hi.These were diecast alloy by Birmal. (birmingham Aluminium Co.) Could be a problem to weld even with TIG, but they are often on Ebay for sale s/h.

Just to close this, somebody clever (anybody on here?) has welded up a pair of new supports and painted them in original colours as per the suggestion from @frank horton
I've not seen the end result but have been told it's does what's needed and looks the part
