I need to buy a bottle of argo/co2 mix for MIG.
I don't want to go down the rented route again because I had the last bottle for 2 - 3 years without using it.
There's a place in St Helens called *removed for legal reasons*, but upon reading their Ts & Cs, I suspect I am basically still paying rent with the deposit.
I could be reading it wrong, but I don't see anything about being able to refill your existing bottle that you have paid the deposit on.
So I would have no choice but to return my existing bottle, and then give a fresh full deposit on a 'new' bottle every time I wanted a refill.
Which sounds like renting a bottle to me.
If I return for a fresh bottle at least every 12 months then that's fine, but if I go back every 18 months and a day, then I have to hand over another 50 quid to top up the deposit by the sounds of it.
Is this typical? and am I understanding it correctly?

(i) if you return the Cylinder to us within [12] months, we will refund [100%] of the Deposit;
(ii) if within [12 to 18] months, [80%] of the Deposit;
(iii) if within [18 to 24] months, [50%] of the Deposit;
(iv) if within [24 to 36] months, [30%] of the Deposit;
if you return the Cylinder after [36] months, we will not refund the Deposit
