Rent Free Acetylene?

Are there any suppliers who are actually taking on new customers?

I used to use J&R gasses, but now my cylinder has run out I have discovered they no longer supply it.

None of the other suppliers seem to be taking on new customers, unless I move over to rented bottles, and even so the bottle sizes available are mostly a bit small for the draw off rates needed for my desired uses (rosebud and spray-welding shafts).

I'm sort of resigned to having to rent, but if I can avoid it it would be nice.

One of the places I work gets acet on the same bottle deal as argon , buy the bottle pay for gas as and when.

I tried to go rent free on acetylene and couldn't find a local supplier, had to stay with BOC in the end. Swapped everything else over to rent free.

there was an acet shortage for a while ,,, I thought it was sorted , maybe a spin off from that. And no gas welding with propolyene ,,, brazings ok just not gas welding ,

Yeah, I use oxy-propane for cutting and can do for heating/brazing with my AFROX shank... But the Acetylene is necessary for the spray welding (and a cheeky bit of gas welding, as I prefer it to TIG).

There was definitely a shortage after one of the two filling plants had an unexpected breakdown, but it seems like there's now a shortage of bottles rather than a problem getting them filled.

Adams gas cylinders, try contacting "Calor Barnsley" I was in there day getting another Argon Bottle. I'm sure they listed Ace.

Adams only do Propylene not Acetylene.

Adams gas cylinders, try contacting "Calor Barnsley" I was in there day getting another Argon Bottle. I'm sure they listed Ace.

Good guys there, I've had small tanks of MIG gasses and Oxy from them in the past, but no Acetylene unfortunately.

Check the cylinder rental price and the gas volume contained.

Yesterday I got a full size bottle (50ltr) of Argon gas (10.4cu m free gas) the one off rental incl gas (about £320.00 all in), if I had rented a 20ltr gas bottle (4.0cu m free gas) it was about £210-ish, but with refills costing £136 +vat (50ltr) or £98.00 +vat (20ltr) you save the difference in rental/gas costs after 2/3rd's of the first bottle.

The only problem is transporting the cylinder for most people, but some dealers do a delivery service so even a full size bottle may not be a problem. just chain the bottle up to someting solid.

Personally a 20ltr bottle is the smallest bottle I would recommend using.

@zzr1200 r1200 I would agree - 20ltr is the smallest I would entertain.

Hopefully Albee are still available? I've got oxy and acy bottles of theirs, I'd be properly plssed off if I found they were nla when I need an exchange refill..

The Air-Products or Air-Liqude sub-brand with integrated regulators?

They're still available from Engweld.

TBH I had forgotten they existed... The sizes look a bit small for my draw-off rate but I might have to run the sums as it looks like the only rent free option at the moment.
