renewed determination....thanks to forum!

Well,after joining the forum only yesterday,I went out to the workshop early this morning,determined to give my arc welder one last shot! (see my other post). I re-made a couple of dodgy lead connections,then had another go at welding my chassis. It was certainly a big improvement,but after only 3/4 hour ,my welds started to look 'craggy'.As I explained,my eyesight aint all that,so Im guessing the better welds are due to having rested my eyes overnight! (strange but true!)Will still need to find a welder to finish it though.

Regarding your sight, Do you normally wear glasses for reading? (about the same distance as welding) If so, things might improve with a couple of changes, Get yourself a cheater magnifying lens of the correct strength and increase the ambient light on your welding area.

Couldn't agree more, Gordon. I have a pair of reading strength safety glasses(courtesy of work) that I wear under my mask all the time now, with a good low energy worklight appropriately positioned next to the job in hand. Makes a world of difference.

I do wear my reading glasses for welding(a real pain to keep swapping them over!) I never thought about the light or magnifier! I will try my anglepoise bench light.Thanks. Are the 'cheater' lenses to fit into the mask then?
