I just went out to have a listen for the pump. It was making a noise and it is now changing through all the gears. I guess this will be temporary - hopefully long enough to chop it in against a manual version!

They've same as they've done with every vehicle, they've stuck more and more unnecessary stuff on them and made them more and more complex.

This is a prime example, I'm guessing the gearbox servo unit is a motor unit to change gear in a manual box? What's wrong with a gear knob and a bit of wrist action?

Bloody modern vehicles, over complicated, too many cheap parts, utterly inaccessible, when they're out of warranty, designed to fail...

TBH, I drive a Sprinter - manual, TR7 - manual, Defender 90 - manual. The only auto is this one, it is our daily drive and the "our" is the reason for the auto as that is preferred by my wife.

She has now agreed, we'll go back to a manual!

..and this morning. Silence when you open the drivers door and the gearbox fault is back. So it looks like it is either the hydraulic pump or relay.

I have the hammer, just need the knowledge of where to hit it!

On the drawing, do I assume 18 is the pump and 17 the pressure vessel?

18 is the pump GM part numbers 93161286 or 93196524, no idea on the relay though

Sounds like a royal pain in the arris,aside of the pump and relay there must be a pressure switch in there somewhere, might be worth checking before throwing money at it.

IIRC the relay is one of the ones in the fuse/relay box underneath the coolant header tank.
They don't have a pressure switch, they just have a pressure sensor (30 on the parts diagram), however I've never seen a pressure sensor fail.

To close this thread out. I'm now a proud owner of a 2014 Renault Trafic Sport (Manual). The other van went on eBay as a fixed price (obviously too cheap) as it was snapped up within 12 hours - but better it gone and out my way than cluttering up my neighbours parking space! We bought another Trafic as I have dog cages made to fit and the Mrs is used to the width and length of that van.

My son has found a way of persuading it to work for a while, which was useful as after the recovery we had to push it into a parking space and it wasn't neat parking. It's a lot neater now and if he can do it again, loading it on the recovery vehicle will be easier than having to manhandle it around!
