HA everyone else that has stuck injectors and heater plugs is doing it wrong them ?? !! Especially the ones that screw a good head up
Damn I must start learning quicker------ I've only got 2years to retirement age.

Worst case if they snap is to drill down the center and use a proper glow plug thread insert remover.

EASY INIT especially in an engine bay, Everyone has one of those handy dont they?, hum------BUT they never snap !! -----so no need

All I do is take them for a good run and thrash them to get the head red hot and then they always release.

The best way is to cover the rad a let them sit just over idle, they get much hotter quicker and controllable, if watched -----matey.

Update:

The van broke down a couple of months ago in Leeds city centre. Wouldn't start but the mad persevered and got it going and made it to York.
Following day it tried it with some easy start but it barely coughed. The AA came out and tried but it wouldn't start so it was recovered to the garage.
The garage had it for several weeks as they were busy. The mechanic thought problem is with low pressure side of fuel pump as it would fire after manually priming it but he struggled as parts would be needed to test to confirm. It then went to a diesel injection specialist in Elland. They put their diagnostics on it and turns out the timing had slipped. Back to the first garage for them to fit new chain and replace broken tensioner.

FIXED

No lights or codes, starts like a dream.
I asked the garage what cured the glow plug issue but they never did any electrical work on the Van?????

All I can think of is the chain was really loose in the first instance and somehow the signals from the cam, crank (and if there is one) pump position sensors confused the ecu?

Well I'm confused!

Well I'm confused!

I had a similar problem on my previous van, a VW T4, when the timing pulley slipped on the shaft. No rhyme or reason as to why it slipped, cost me nearly £200 for the diesel specialist (I was outside their garage when the van died) to reset the timing.
