Removing Powder Coating

Hi Folks

I am hoping someone can give me some advice on how best to remove powder coating from steel.

Previously I have used good ole Nitro Mors but went to Halfords and bought some today and not impressed at all.

I tried a rotary cup brush but total waste of time

Think I used something like Starchem from Toolstation when I stripped my chassis ? Panted it on , left for a short time , scrape and repeat with no real effort. The shot blaster that I used told me that shot just bounces off of decent powder coating without stripping it off

Years ago we used to burn it off kart chassis with an oxy torch and wire brush. It did the job… depending on how much you have to do!

I have a propane burner so that may be the answer once I run out of NitroMors

If it was steel, as in wheels or bullbars I would just chuck it on the bonfire. I likes a bonfire.

Most paint strippers just make it go slimes and even harder to deal with. Blasting or heat is best or take it to be dipped in hydrochloric.

I have a propane torch and used that this morning, brilliant results, 4 pieces cleaned in lest time than it took me to do one yesterday with Nitro Mors

whether you get the drill fitting ones or grinder etc,the best way is with a much slower speed,too fast and all you do is heat up the coating which will stick and or clog.
Your'll also be surprised how much you can get off with some serious course grit (24+ grit) paper by hand,yes it'll take ages but again,no heat less clog

Sure, just put a few chips in it and let the water creep under it.

(I dug out an Axminster thicknesser yesterday here... It's been kept under cover, and still the powdercoat is all bubbling... I hate the stuff!)

got a clarke sack barrow the poweder coatings peeling off the base in a big piece .some rusty and some still shiny and smooth clean metal just fell off shotblast ertch prime and 2 k is far the best or a good enamel
