Removing old gate posts

Is there any particular technique to this other than breaking the concrete and wiggling?

I have a 120x120mm box section posts which has moved over time it's actually leaning at a 45 degree angle. But still feels completely solid and stuck in the ground.

I am due to install some new gates so this will need to come out. I have access on three sides of the post the 4th side is against a sandstone wall. It is leaning away from the wall at present.

Just wonder if there's a big ball of concrete "bonded" to the bottom of the post and that its rotated with the post to give your 45 degree lean? Unless you can find a helpful digger driver to wrap a chain round the post and lift the whole caboosh out its going to be a sledge hammer a steel job to break it out.

I used a farm jack to remove a gatepost - no concrete ball at the bottom fortunately!

if it is concreted in, try and dig down to the ball and aim a digging bar at the where it joins the post and pray its a weak mix ! try not to dig to much soil around the perimeter as it never packs as well as undisturbed soil

I think you might have to go carefully, incase you bring the sandstone wall down with it.

Do you know the shape of the post underground? It may have a "T" welded to it so go careful if you use a digger or the floor will come up with it.
When I had to remove a load of concrete posts from my garden I first made a clamp go go around the post. The set up an "A" frame over or next to it and hung some chain blocks on with the hook on the clamp. The chain blocks ripped them out essily.

I've done similar, a couple of turns of chain round it so it tightens as you pull.

I did entertain the neighbours a few years ago when I put the winch bumper of the Landy against the house and run the winch cable through the back gate to uproot a few Sycamore saplings in the back garden
