Just started up the old digger ( 1964 model) and got drenched when two pipes burst at the same time. The first one I tried to remove is feeding a ram for lifting the front shovel, the union threads are not that rusty and have paint on them but cannot move them even with 18 inch stilsons. I think the pipe is 1inch bsp and the nuts are about 1 1/4 inch across flats, I am normally good at removing seized up nuts but these are tight and could be 15 years since last replaced. I am considering cutting the nuts with an angle grinder or slicing the pipe and trying a ring spanner but first thought might ask for advice on here, would it be ok to apply some heat or is this not a good idea with fluid still in the pipes ? There is not enough space for two sets of stilsons and the mounting bracket welded to the ram is bending and the union still not coming loose.
