You have broken/cracked/missing remains of sheets then use a reciprocating saw (or manually with a hacksaw blade and pad saw handle) cut the nails close to the rafters and then slide any old remaining sheet parts out.
Now slide new sheet under the old roofing sheets, fix/renail, then seal any old unused holes with roofing paint/silicone/roofing tape to stop any possible leaks.
