removing items from a building 4 floors up down stairs

I ended up buying some extraction units out of an old collage recently. turns out it is on the 4th floor so is going to need to come down a good few flights of stairs is there any niffty ways of going about this?

atm my idea is to get an 8ftX2ft length of ply wood and set it on the stairs. tie a rope to the units and slide them down slowly. there are about a 4ft cube hopefully not more that 100kg.

not sure what is happening with the building if they are really heavy then I might raw bolt an eye at the top of each stair case and some sort of pulley system with the ply sheets and let them down that way.

any bright ideas fellas?

If they are only 100 kgs two blokes will fly it, Maybe make some sort of carrying poles to make the job easy-er

How about a set of aluminium ladders side by side on the stairs, with a sheet of ply across them, drill a few holes at the edges of the sacraficial ply, with a hole cutter, strap the boxes to the ply and with a little oil /grease on the face of the ladders you can slide them down using a pulley from the top rungs or just two ropes round the rungs, running down to the bottom of the stairs depending on the weight you can then 'steer' them down, also you are then at the bottom to 'receive' them therefore no damage to anything.

You may be able to rent them, That one there will handle 150kgs

if the 4th floor is the top floor should be easy enough to hand ball em on the roof, then lower em down, rope at the top and bottom.

It's possible to buy/rent motorised sack barrows which run off a golf cart type lead acid battery.

a 13 foot scaffloding board and rope and 2 blokes .one on the rope other steadying it i pulled a safe up out of a cellar using same method and was heavier than that

ok lots to go on tbh it is too big for a sack truck unless it is someway extendable.


keeping it low to the ground seems a good way to go less chance of it falling over. but I will know better when I see it on monday or tuesday.

Use rachet straps to hold the thing on the long sack barrow or extend the handles as well .
