Removing barrel from a D-Lock

My heavyweight D-Lock's key barrel finally failed after ten years use. Turns out there's a very good long term warranty on it and Kryptonite have sent me a free new lock. The tinkerer in me still wants to save the old lock

The lock failed while in the open position. Lubrication is not helping though I could try a soak in heating oil. The lock has a shield around the barrel which I removed and exposed the metal case underneath. The key barrel itself now pulls out by 1mm, it feels like it could come out further but isn't. Are the barrels removable on these things?

Or Bosnian Bill though don't think he does as much of the explicatory stuff, seems to be more against the clock, seems that in the USA lock picking is a sport!

Thats the lock, thank you. Shocking how quickly he picks them. His review concluded that the lock is very well built but the barrel lacks false gates making it easy to pick.

The barrel just slid out for him, mine doesn't. It's gone for a long soak in diesel oil and I'll try again later.

The diesel soak did the trick, the barrel has come out and the whole thing dismantles. The barrel isn't behaving correctly though so I'll see if it can be replaced. Not sure if they are a standard shape?

Not sure, went through a spate of watching them while trying to figure out a broken lock but haven't looked for a while.

Put the key in the barrel and make sure a the pins are sat flat.

If they are proud a little tickle with the grinder to polish.

I know bolt croppers have an alternative name "firemans key"

Having got that far with it, I'd be disappointed if you couldn't find the fault and fix it for all to see. Might help someone else with a stuck lock one day.
