Reliable parcel collection from sellers address?

I spotted a very rare new old stock exhaust section for my Merc cossie on ebay. It was collection only but the seller has agreed to wrap it and I arrange courier to uplift at his address. A house in Caldicot.

I presume parcelforce but they did let me down badly before a few months back in a similar situation. They dropped a note at 5.30pm on the day of collection to say no one was home but it was complete lies as the seller's wife was waiting in all day.

Hence asking who is a reliable courier collextion in that general area please.

Id ask the seller, reliability varies area to area depending in the staff. Our Everi guy is superb, Yodel on the other had a waste of space!

I was thinking Evri. Whatever service I use I will fully ensure it and pay premium service to reduce chances or loss as much as possible

Id say parcelfarce is about as good as any of the others for pickup, but they are currently merging some of the stuff with royal mail which is causing issues with things like the express 24 service (better with larger packages, but small ones frequently get delayed)

If it's that valuable to you what about one of the small courier companies that you book for a single job?, we used them for robot spares, engineer would phone from site and a small van or motorcycle would collect the part from the office and bring it out to site.
Best one was a robot breakdown at JCB, they sent the bosses helicopter to pick up the part!.

I work in caldicot...I can grab it if you need me to and then sort something

If he is prepping it for postage I'm happy to do the legwork for you, got an evri, post office, royal mail sorting office, parcel force, yodel/in post (would not recommend) local to me.

Give him whatever details he wants about me to verify who I am when collecting if he is the nervous type

We have used Gophr when we need a courier to give a toss, be on time and do the job right. Not as cheap as the regular options but I personally can recommend them.

I would have thought Parcelforce or EVRI.

The problem as I see it is we are leading into Christmas, such services get exponentially busy, more likely for things to get lost or delayed.

Holiday time periods, I think I would rely on EVRI to collect and deliver but you kind of take your chances but at the same time you want to cause the least fuss for the seller.

As @Robotstar5 says, a small courier in the area might be the better bet.

I use interparcel.... normally dpd or fedex....
Parcelforce destroyed something a few weeks ago....
By the way... I havent forgotten the aerial

Wifey has been using DPD and found them to be very good. Tracking is good as well.

There is none that are universally good - all depends on the local driver on that round on that day. If your seller doesn't know the reliable onesbfir their area it's a lottery...

I've had stuff collected with no probs from Parcelforce, booked online and they also if you request it bring a sticky postage label which is handy, the tracking has been good too.
Admittedly these have been collect from me rather than a third party, this would require the said third party to be reliable in the sense of being in and handing it over of course

As with all of these things, when everything goes as expected, a company seems fine.

When somthing "happens" they start to reveal how abysmal they really are.

If all goes well with interparcel you never really have to deal with them, and they seem fine.

If there is a problem, it's not quite the same.


All couriers and their resellers are rubbish when stuff goes wrong.

But, I would say that I have done mail order stuff for 20 years or so and Interparcel is both a company that has had a lot of money off me in the past AND one that will never see another penny from me again.

A RM delivery was scheduled for today, but I expected to be out during the times quoted.
I rescheduled it for tomorrow.

Update-

The seller was good enough to fully pack the new old stock exhaust. It is 1.65m long and this size rules out most couriers and makes it expensive.

In the end the cheapest option, fully insured was parcelforce 48hr large parcel. I booked the collection for today and got notification it was successfully uplifted.

It cost £80 to post, other services like DHL quoted over £200. Anyway its on the way now and I should get it in NI monday or tuesday.
