The photo below I just pulled off the internet but the pop-up sunroof on my Vitara is very similar. My Vitara is totally stripped down and sunroof removed so that I can blast and repaint the car.
Having removed the sunroof the roof is now very flimsy. Too flimsy to apply filler. The aluminium rim (marked red in photo below) seems to provide strength to the roof and with it removed it's all just flopping around. So I was going to epoxy paint around the sunroof cutout, reinstall the aluminium rim and then continue with applying body filler.
So now what's the best stuff to use to reinstall the rim. Last time I used some sort of auto glazing silicone. It held the rim in well but didn't cure fully in the centre as was too thick. It also didn't stick well to the meal so allowed water to get under the rim (but not through to the cabin).
So this time I was thinking of using windscreen adhesive which will fully cure and is ultra strong but not workable. And then seam sealer around the edge to finish off and keep water out.
Opinions?
