hi.

whats the best type of 'O' ring to use when fitting your regulator to your gas bottle?

i have a rubber o ring and a fibre washer o ring in the correct size, so i thought id ask the professionals.

Are you thinking about disposable bottles? The rubber in the regulator is rubber, though it's not an "O" ring, more of a flat washer. The refillable bottles tend to be sealed by brass against brass.

no im talking about pub gas bottle size. up to your waist sort of size.

if its the case of a flat washer ill have to use a fibre washer then, because the rubber ones ive got are o rings.

Flat rubber washer on my CO2 bottle. They get some stick and fall apart over time. Last time I replaced it from one roughly-hewn from a sheet of flat rubber. Actually it was covering my bench at work so I had to strategically place something to hide the hole afterwards...

ill take my regulator to B&Q (other hardware shops are available) tomorrow and buy a pack of rubber washers in the correct fitment. i can fit a new one then everytime i change my bottle.

for those who are interested, B&Q do a pack of 5 rubber washers for £1.08, down the plumbers section.

they are tap washers by definition, but they give a perfect seal.

and you then get spare washers for the next 4 bottles of gas you go through, rather than re-use the same one and risk a leak.
