Regulator question

Hi All

I am new to this forum ang MIG welding and have a question on regulators. I have just changed the bottle from Migshield to Argon to do some Aluminum welding.

When I connected the regulator to the Argon the gas keeps coming out the little black screw in "valve" on the side of the regulator. When I put it back on the Migshield bottle it did the same thing. Is the regulator ********?? It just seems odd that it didn't do it before. Is the regulator for Argon different to Argon/CO2 mix??

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know the specific answer but it could be the argon is at a lot higher pressure and it's blown the pressure relief valve or something. Argon is certainly at a higher pressure than straight CO2.

Have you got any deatils of the make of regulator? Does it show any maximum pressure, alternatively what's the top reading on the scale?

Someone may know if the regulator is re-settable...

maybe a photo of the regulator will help.

Thanks for your reply. It seems that I have a problem with the "blow off valve" in the regulator. It is the standard reg that comes with a CIG Transmig 135. I would say a bit cheap and nasty.

I don't like dealing was gas under such pressures so I am told that I can purchase an $80 regulator that will also have the guages which I don't have now and know that it will be a safe option.

I guess what I am saying is that for $80 I will have more confidence in the unit and be able to tell how much gas I have left and what the gas setting is.

What do you think?

'$80' I assume is $Aus? What's that, around UK 35 Sterling?

Any pics of the regulator? I'm not 100% whether we're talking of one for disposables or refillable bottles.

Thanks guys. I lashed out and bought the new reg $80 AUS. It works well. i have done some welds which I am about topost on another thread.

I appreciate the help on this. Please check ut my pics and give some advice. I am keen to learn from you guys.
