10 cubic metres in a large Air Liquide 230 BAR bottle, that's a fair space, enough to fill the average shed to the point of asphyxiation. But you would very likely hear a leak big enough to fill a room suddenly, and you shouldn't weld in an unventilated area anyway.

Fair point Jim but if you don't shut the kit down properly and it leaks when your not there you can end up walking into a room with not enough oxygen in it to support life, has happened several times in the past.

Oh I agree, but usually in clean rooms, cupboards, tanks, ships holds or other similar areas where there is very poor ventilation, the average garage or shed leaks like a proverbial sieve and is low risk.

Are they multistage or do you use them with the gas saver they make?
I have been looking for a decent multistage argon regulator.

You're right but you can't be too careful, there was an instance last year where a guy working in a skip very nearly came to grief and who would automatically think of that as a "confined space"?

I definitely would, but I'm aware most shielding gases are heavier than air.

Having nearly fallen foul of argon asphyxiation before and having to be helped out of that situation by a work colleague, it's not something to be taken lightly.

Not argon but mapp gas from a plumbers blow torch, I was talking to someone on site up on the 5th floor when there was a massive WOOSH and a flash of flame. The plumbers apprentice was running round with his eyebrows on fire along with the contents of the steel sitebox he had just opened.
Turns out he had put his torch in there but not turned it off properly then shut the lid and gone to breakfast, when he opened the lid something must have sparked and ignited the gas!
We emptied two fire extinguishers into the box and put it out but it made a right mess of it (I grabbed a powder one )
So even in a semi sealed container it's dodgy.

Multistage reg. I have the twin tube set up so I can feed a purge line as the Elgas don't cater for a Y with the way they are designed. Don't fall over when you see the price mind but I highly recommend them. With a lens set up my Alu work happy at 4lpm inside. No start up surges or increased flow issues at the cylinder end but this isn't just an elga thing. All ms regs save gas in this way I just really like the elga regs. I was a Safire man before hand which are equally as good but not about any more.
Harris, gas arc are also very good and lend themselves to Y set up for purging.

trouble i had with cheer singel stage regs is winding them on and off just seemed to kill the adjustment, but they'll often survive to there stamp date if they are any good out the box.

the better regs do fine till there date, i change even my hobby stuff on date just incase somethign ever happens that involves insurance, we all know they work fine for a long time after i've seen 40 yr old regs in use and woring better than new ones, but if i ever put any out of date gas regs up for sale on here i know what mst of the replys would be.
