Regulator / flow meter

I have blagged a bottle of welding gas from my brother in law but I am unsure about the equipment I need to connect it to my welder.
I assume that most of the fittings are fairly standard but do I need a pressure gague, a regulator and a flow meter?
I know my BiL uses a set up using a gague and a flow meter but I have seen some set ups that have two gagues AND a flow meter. Isn't that a bit OTT?
Which is essential?
Which is useful?
Which is for proffesionals only?

Any pointers on good value suppliers would also be appreciated.

You probably need a regulator, you dont need a flow meter.

What cylinder is it, and what sort of machine is it?

A few cylinders use regulators built in to the cylinder.

The cylinder is BOC Argoshield light but the valve on it is more of a tap than a regulator.

My welder is a Clarke 130en, I have used this bottle with this welder before but my BiL has moved away and taken his regulator set up with him so I need to get my own.

Yup, argoshield are valve only, you DO need a regulator.
This is what you need, im not familiar with the clarkes, whether they use proper gas hose or you need a convertor....

This has the adapter for the 4mm hose.

I have a reg with just a flowmeter.
I have one with just gauges.
On my MIG and TIG I have regs with 2 gauges and a separate flowmeters.

Anything will do. A flowmwter is nice and more useful on TIG. A reg with a tank gauge will tell how much you have left. A flow gauge is fine (like the one weldequip sells.)
