Regulator flow gauge needle fluttering

Evening,

I have a Wescol Argon regulator, one of the ones from weldequip, over the past few nights the needle has been fluttering intermittently on the flow gauge during welding, it has a distinct rat-a-tat sound, like a diaphragm opening and shutting very fast.

It doesn't seem to affect the actual flow of gas, but is it a cause for concern? what is the cause and is there a solution?, if indeed it's a problem.

The only change has been to a higher pressure bottle, 200bar instead of 137bar, but the regulator is rated to 300bar so this shouldn't be an issue.

Any ideas?

I have a Wescol gauge that has been doing the same thing for a couple of years now and it still works so I just tend to ignore it. I tried turning it up and down and all the way out but it made no difference. Probably not a lot of use to you but if it packs up I'll just get another.

Well good to know it isn't terminal I suppose! I've noticed more brown soot on my welds but that may be due to welding a 35 year old BL car and welding at funny angles, either way I think I'll shoot Steve a pm and see what he thinks.
