I've just had a pallet delivered with various exciting welding bits on it. One was a magnificent looking Pickhill Bantam. I see these were made in Yorkshire, and seem to have quite a good reputation. Before I start it up, I have read about condensation in the casing and other problems that might cause a bang.
I don't know what history it's had, and I am interested in giving it a refurbishment which will necessitate a disassembly and a repaint. I saw a Colchester lathes promotional video recently in which all their machines were painted gold. I'm sorely tempted.
Has anyone refurbished one of these or have any top oil-filled tips?
