I wonde if it's just the newness? After a while, the inside of the pipe will get smutty which may help make it conductive...?

Use it to clean the lathe for a week, that'll put enough metal filings up his snout to stop the shocks.
Mine does the same, I just hold the metal pipe so it doesn't charge up!

Or a chimney - get some conductive carbony soot up there?

Is the pipe bare metal or plastic coated? I’m sure the new ones are plastic coated, possibly to stop this issue.

You can buy earth wrist straps for when you build computers.

ive seen them being used and the guy doing it touched a live cable and it nearly fried him it shorted him out not the computer

The pipe is bare metal - just like the old ones.
Tried the hose from my old Henry on this one - definitely no static from that one. Swapped back and blue sparks again.
It could be the build up of crap in the old one I suppose. I will have to try my multimeter on them see if I get different readings.
Nope need a megger!

More likely the plastic the hose is made from , none of our Henrys give you a belt.
The hose screws in to the plastic bucket so its not earthed ...even if there is an earth on the power cable which I doubt.

The dust and dirt is a static accumulator as it passes through at speed, like petrol and diesel in fuelling pipes.

Definitely no Earth anywhere - so the hose must be conductive - or the grime that builds up makes it so!

But if its supposedly the plastic bits that earth it its not earthed so nowhere for the charge to go...which is the problem.

Some plastics are just more prone to picking up a charge from all that air and dust whizzing over its surface.
