I can think of a few jobs that would be ideal for. Measuring the inside circumference of large tanks... currently roll a grinding disc around the inside and count the revs, then measure circumference of the disc.... bit of mathematical wizardry and you've got it.
Probably not worth buying for that, no way it ever will replace a standard tape!

The display is unnecessarily complex and in use, covered by your thumb! I can see how a roller measure could potentially answer a couple of very specific measuring requirements, overall length of a curved/angled bench, internal external curves and maybe even for use in the dark

But it doesn't appear to have been thought through. It could have had a built in marker with a pen nib or scribe for example, it wasn't immediately obvious from the video where the exact point of measurement was from/to. Was it that big lump on the side Makes you wonder at the repeatability of it's claimed accuracy.

That's actually quite cool, looks more repeatable and accurate. I'd still never use it.

Also the radius isn't 5/8" as it claims.

I think he meant it has to be mm or meters to be useful to him.

It would be no good to me either, only this morning I had to cut a bit of timber to fit exactly in a space 27" plus 2 and a smidgen mm long.

we use similar measurements but its built around an ants body part
example...5ft 2" and an ants **** 5ft 2" and a happy ants **** 5ft 2" and a large ants **** the funny bit is we all know the same size in our heads and 9 times out of 10 get it spot on with no room or movement

when I left school they just changed to metric so made it difficult for me . i use both measurements now

There is twelve Rizla`s to a gnats dangler so it may well have been imperial

Fairly sure I remember seeing a mechanical version of this at my grandads in the 80’s...although it could have been from the 60s or before I suppose!
It was brown and had little extension rod things you could attach for measuring up to the ceiling etc

Elephants eyelash and a spiders leg are two units of ermm measurement as well.
