Red hot shroud

Running 2 machines doing the same job.

Both Hitachi 350capII, with tregakiss tough guns, virtually identical power settings etc.

On just one of the sets, after finishing say a few 300mm welds in quick succession, the shroud will be glowing red.
They arn't lightweigh hobby torches either

Though maybe it was an issue with a loose torch connector/earth or something, all are secure, and not really hot anywhere else.

Thought maybe its operator technique, so swapped for a bit, same machine glowing red shroud....

Any ideas why?

It doesn't seem to be affecting anything, welds fine, wire feeds fine....

Swap torch consumables over to narrow it down a bit?
Can't think of anything that would cause it other than some form of arcing/short

Is the polarity the same on both welders? Has it been checked with a meter?

Insullation in the shroud looks good....it doesnt seem to arc onto the sides as you weld....

Might try a new tip/shroud holder....

Meter, no, not looked into it that deep to be honest.

How do you find those torches perform (Apart from the dodgy one)?

Considering they arn't water cooled, they don't give any trouble really, possibly also down to the feeder though, consumables have a reasonable life....even the one that glows red lasts pretty well considering.

Decent sized torch, long neck to keep hands away from the heat, but quite heavy compared to binzel types. Good trigger, easy to operate even with new gloves on
Downside, the nice big trigger is easily pressed if you put the torch down on something by accident.

Maybe one has less gas flow?

i had it once and it was the coil spring that holds the shrould on had somehow shorted that was a binzel torch
