Red diesel duty relief being scrapped

They have been putting the squeeze on red diesel usage for a few years now, leisure craft are not supposed to use it any more, tractors/mowing equipment on golf courses and playing fields have to use white diesel as do colleges and councils. Cant see them hitting ag and fisheries but for the rest of the users its probably going to be knocked on the head. A lot of heating systems both industrial and domestic use red diesel, wonder what will happen to that

According to the gov website it can still be used in tractors, snow ploughs/gritting machines, cranes excavators, pumps etc

My father looked into the possibility of generating some sort of power from it, he was told that he would be charged equal to the amount of power generated, so not worth it. He also used the water for the garden, Severn Trent told him that it had to be got out by hand, any form of powered pump, he would pay rates on it.

A business has to pay extra business rates if they install solar panels on their roof, a new version of roof tax? and extra rates if they have a cash machine for public use...….. they won't be getting much more from me, when I retired I had to pay £100k back vat, £20k penalties, and £100k capital gains tax...……….

Regarding Severn Trent, I would have thought that was for abstraction licence.

Leisure craft still do use red diesel, but we have to declare what proportion is used for propulsion and heating, but to be fair HMRC never really wanted to bring in the rules it was forced o to us by EU, so its just a case of going to the supplier and putting name and address and the split on a form. I don't believe our completed forms for the yard have been collected (might be wrong, but think they are still altogether on the clip file!).

There has been cases of boats over here using red diesel, boat is then transported to EU countries tanks being dipped coming up positive and the boat owner has been prosecuted.

the solar panels are increasing the value of the property hence the increase, (I personally think this might be changed in the future), not the same as the old tile tax, if you add something that will increase the value that will affect the business rates, but at the moment ATM there has been I think a legal fight in the courts and it might have been over turned, I can check tomorrow when back in the office, the reliefs on business rates have increased. Do people realise that even things like, telecommunication masts, banner holders (if permanent, but even when no banner hanging) on lamp posts, advertising signs etc all can come under Business Rates (NNDR), Business rates is where most councils get their income, alongside Council Tax.

They do get the super rich ones occasionally, but there's a big difference between avoidance, legal, and evasion, illegal. A lot of people seem not to know the difference.

Just ordered 400 litres, my neighbour is getting 1600 litres and we get a cheaper price as we hit 2000 litres between us.

I have one of these, it has a 12v pump in it saves all that looking for funnels a pouring diesel down your leg etc.

If dipped they can test if red has been in the white tank as the change over tap is an old trick that doesn't work if you are stopped

There is a cut off when buying red diesel, that if you go over it you get the quantity at a better price but the tax is next level? our boat yard has 2000 lt tank, but they have to make two orders when it needs more than a certain amount which I thought was 1500 or 1600lts.

If you go over 2300L then you pay full VAT rate so with 2000L tank they should have no issues. Savings are savings but crossing 1000L boundary doesn't make enough difference to get massively excited about.

I need 5 gals for my mobile comp normally just used to get it off the farmers where I worked but they have all retired suppose il have to shell out but no petrol stations near by that sell it
