Red diesel duty relief being scrapped

See the govt are considering scrapping lower tax rate on red diesel in the budget, going to hit quite a few industries pretty hard
Guess it's a case of stock up while you can

Lucky I've just filled my 1000 litre bowser - it usually lasts me a couple of years at least

Its all a merry go round, the fuel whether red or white is tax deductible and any VAT reclaimable

It will save a fortune instead of trying to catch the taxi drivers dodging duty. I can't see how it will affect much beside farmers and civil engineering and they can claim tax back anyway as Bob says.

Not sure if it will apply to Fishermen or not, if it does then there will be a lot going out of business.

I am thinking it may just end up them getting the same deal as they do on petrol, they get duty, VAT and tax relief on petrol so I would imagine the same will just happen with diesel.
In other words the duty will have to be paid and they claim it back.

we know you only get taxed on your profit after expenses are taken off but you have to make a profit to do it. earning under a certain amount and its not worth doing

in business they will use a certain amount for work done on the books so if you start using large amounts and flogging it it will only be a matter of time if your caught out by the tax man and vat man

With three Moxy dumpers and five 360’s (typically 75 tonne machines) on site, plus forklift, we can do 1,000 litres per week on site... and that’s before we have put anything in the site lighting...

May need more lighting in future (and more security) to keep the thieving gits away if they can just fire it in their vans and be away.

And that’s just one project...

Slim margins already and the costs are heading north...

The above I have thought of before.

Agri user gets sold white derv at full price - claims VAT back - claims fuel duty rebate back - then knocks what is left off his profit line (claims it as expenses). Then goes down the pub and sells it for a profit - person who buys it - can never get knicked.

Do you mean 1000ltrs a day? We use over 1000ltrs a week with four smaller excavators, telehandlers, chippers and smaller plant.

It will affect loads from fisherman, pleasure craft owners, all non road plant can't see it happen unless like already said you can claim back the tax on white, then the fiddles will be massive

I think we have done 3,000 litres a week sometimes but that’s when we get the dumpers working - it’s still one hell of a bill!
