Recrowning a rifle barrel

It's back together, as I said the guy at the shop had just filled the ports with oil, which had done a good job of collecting everybit of grit and crud into a paste that was holding the valve open on the filler side. Having stripped it down it appears to have been missing a washer between the hammer spring and the hammer, so I machined a top hat out of stainless , also acts as a damper as raiders suffer from resonance of the spring and valve when firing. Seems a little smoother but I don't posses a chrono to test it and I haven't had a chance to beat at any targets yet

Did you get it sorted Dan ? I was in the gun shop today and seen a nice BSA pcp. Its for sale for reasonable money, it spending more on the bottles, regs and hoses that might scare me off. Unless you can fill airguns out of argon welding bottles

You can fill them with a stirrup pump. Most ranges also have a diving bottle to fill off anyway

There isn't much point to airguns once they need fac as they do in Ireland a 22 lr is much better for most things small at a fraction of the hassle and cost. My mate now has my old rapid but I retain its use on my ticket

True, but for whacking squirrels, crows and magpies out of high trees the air rifle is ideal.

Still got my .22 Original 45 I bought with my first wage packet 32 years ago at Jim Johnsons in Bexleyheath. A few subtle mods including an uprated spring but it's so well made!

Some of the old british and german airguns were very high quality, probably no difference in the standards they were built to and the standards of the shotguns and rifles of the day.

I would never shoot unless I had a good backstop, ie on the horizon/cress, tree. At the right trajectory a .22 Rimfire can easily travel a mile.

I live in the boondocks and use the air rifle for pigeons which are a curse and rats etc. It's on my FAC and I have plenty of other rifles but none any good for that job nor with appropriate back stop etc.

It's also good for plinking targets in the back garden!

I've got a Scorpion T10, FAC rated. My my Brno 22 stays in the cupboard. Hardly use it now. I was going to say to change the o ring on the probe, you got there before me. Have you tried Defiant FAC pellets? I use them all the time, been using them 5 or 6 years. I cleaned the barrel when I swapped over from Bismags, never cleaned it since. They are very consistent in their weight and I only ever found a few with deformed skirts. Still used them.

I've still got a tin of Eley Wasps. Also got some Prometheus (plastic carrier / separate non lead projectile) knocking around somewhere.

Never liked those Prometheus pellets, I had an old weihrauch that liked eley wasps until the day I bought a "replacement" spring from chambers that kicked it quite far over the fac line and just deformed them! Some hasty detuning ensued

BAR might have them, ruggles sold the rights to H&N. I got a couple thou the last time I got some.

In my day playing with air rifles and a lot of the FAC guys cast their own heavyweight ammo with moulds.

True and why I retained it on my ticket
In truth I have not made the call on its current keeper in the three years the rapid has lived at my mates.I still have 2 @ 12 ftlb and an array of shotguns

Neither should I. In all fairness it might in ideal circumstances. Cb and bb caps can produce less energy than an average fac rated airgun
