recovering data from snapped micro sd

bought a new phone earlier, took the memory card out of my old one and managed to snap it.

is there anyway i can recover the data. Ive tried pushing it into the phone but it doesn't recognise it.

my phone wont let me upload a pic of it, any ideas on how i do that. I clicked upload file but it wont let me select a file

If it's just the plastic broken, try it in a micro SD to SD converter, then try uploading to a pc, then transfer onto a new micro SD.

at first i thought it was. The brass terminals are fine but in the centre of the card there is a mettalic strip that is broken too.

will try the adaptor though if i can find it

Its dead you have no chance the chip it's self is tiny and will be disconnected from the contacts

There are specialist firms that can at times recover data from some but probably not all damaged drives etc, even one's that have been in a fire, should imagine it's not cheap though.

how good is your soldering skills under a magnifying glass? sometimes you can rebuild across the fractured tracks with hook up wire and get them fired up enough to read after, but if your not used to that level of fine rework its going to be like performing abortion on a butterfly. And if the crack propogates through the timing xtal, its game over unless you can solder another one in. At which point it becomes how much is that data worth to you...

Heat from a normal soldering iron will fry the chip. There will be too much heat. I'm afraid the card sounds deadthe moral or the tail isif you data is important then back it up. Then back it up somewhere else. And then back that up. Then when you are finished take a backup.

Storage is so cheap these days there is no excuse for loosing data.

I've used a piece of solid copper wire to extend a soldering iron bit for delicate stuff.

its mainy just pictures of crap that I have taken for work and to keep track of wiring and os on, few pictures of the baby and the dog. no end of the world stuff on this one, luckily.

I tried it in an adaptor, and it didn't work and now I have half a micro sd card stuck in the adaptor. but on the plus side I have just got another 8gb micro sd card for 4 quid.

lesson learnt. everything else I have is backed up, all my college files, everything to do with work and anything to do with hmrc and so on, but I never thought to back up my phone

I got a sim card reader, allows me to back up our phones to PC

Assuming you have an android phone, there are various apps which will do autobackups via your data connection to various places - google+ is the most famous one, but there are others.

Lesson learnt I guess.
I suggest you get a gmail account. You can then set it to auto back your contacts and pictures, FOC

its was android and i have a gmail account. Just never set it to back up.

got a lumia now with windows and have set it to back up everytime its connected to the laptop which is usually once a day ay least

so far so good lol. I quite like the format of the phone. Although its win8 based its alot simpler and quite easy to navigate around.

ive heard many horror stories about this phone but my missus has one and its never missed a beat so fingers crossed

Mrs Robo has a Dropbox account, as soon as you add something new on the phone like taking a picture it backs it up. I was working on her PC the other day when the Dropbox opened to let me know a new picture from her phone had been added, damned clever I thought.
