Hello fellow vice nerds,
Of recent I've been studying and buying a few Record vices. These X items stand out, surely others before me have asked these same questions, with luck some of you may know the answers to thes questions:-
1. Older versions often have the residue of old very dark blue paint but most of those that we see have the acknowledged Record blue. There was an exact year when they must have made this change, I'd guess that it was circa 1950-55. Do any of you KNOW when it was?
2. The Record trademark cast into the side of the vice changed from being depressed in the casting to standing proud , this is very easy to see and there are many vices of each type on ebay. The 1949 Record catalogue shows the first version and the 1967 catalogue shows the latter version. I'd guess the change was around 1955-1960...but do any of you KNOW when this took place.
3. Re Fitters vices (1-8). The visible end to the main screw have simplified turning differences on the later versions, these all seem to match the changes to the trade-mark mentioned above. It seems like both the changes here to the trademark took place at the same time. My guess is that Record advertised these 'improved' changes at the time.
Does anyone have an advert showing the changes and giving a date.
I'm really aware that for most of you this is a really boring subject....please forgive this vice nerd!
