Record Players

I fancy another record player for another room. I have a ton of vinyl and a good but bog standard Sony deck (about 25 years old) and an old Philips deck from the late 60s early 70s that will run 15, 33, 45 and 78’s. It will also run them in a stack of 9 records for longer play times!

For those of you into vinyl whats your favourite deck and why and what Would you be on the lookout for today (new or old)?

Auto return would be a good feature. I am guessing the Technic wouldnt have that as most DJ decks dont?

Winchboy has a Pioneer PL12d he is happy it has a £30 cartridge on it.
Old rega's or Moth ( Same deck rebadged)
Get a set of British manufactured speakers from the 80's especially of you have never heard of the brand
Musical Fidelity
Principal Design
Ram Audio
Any Many others.
Naim Nac4 cable Nac5 if you can afford it
Good set of speaker stands and you will rediscover your collection.

You'll pay for quality engineering, and they are quality. Beautiful sound as is to be expected. I gave mine away about 10 years ago when I realised I couldn't appreciate the sound quality any more.

I've had a planar 3 since I was about 17. Bought used then.

I've got a systemdek II in bits too. (Think poor man's gyrodek styling)

One day I'll sort out the systemdek, and have it in the "art studio" here.

(Art studio as in open fronted barn piled up with machinery presently - but one day my partner and I plan to run print courses a few times a year for some extra cash)

Had a Linn Sondek LP12/ Ittok/ Asak combo but was offered such good money for it I sold it and bought a Thorens. Still got my Linn Isobarik speakers though, they should be sold as they are too big for this place.

Not had a deck or vynyl in years

Full convert to digital audio for music.

Only reason for buying vynyl these days would be for sampling but youtube is much more convenient

I also have a Rega Planar 3, it’s an early one that had the R200 S-shaped arm fitted. It now has an RB300. I bought it 2nd hand, I reckon it was in the early 90s.
Edit: Now I think of it, It was more likely late 80s.
If you’re looking to buy new then something by Project would be worth a look and listen, they get decent reviews.

Can't really go wrong with a Rega deck, good bang for buck.
You better have deep pockets to consider Linn, believe me it is a very slippery slope.
