I’ve had this for a while And it’s been stripped of paint for about 3-4 years and is just such a handy size, thought I better show it some love. It had a quick dunk in the evaporust Then some etch primer and undercoat Then some Roundel blue shame it’s got a bit of the casting missing but I never noticed it till it came out of the tank and it doesn’t affect its use. a couple more coats needed then it can go back together as always, thanks for looking
Looks good - I need to do my No. 3 next I haven't been underneath it for years - is it just a split pin to remove the screw or is there anything more complex?
Getting there now, another coat on the fixed jaw and unmasking the sliding jaw, with a little bit of stoning the running surfaces too
Got it reassembled finally Just need some 1/4” BSW screws for the jaws now (and I should probably get a Tap to clean threads, the amount I’m doing at the moment) It’s not a fully polished “minter” as it was refreshed more to use might still highlight the lettering at some point though as I’m a Tart like that
So on Tuesday we popped over to do the pre-christmas present exchange to My other half's brother and family, they have always been really good to us and always spoil our kids rotten and wont ever take anything in return. Mark is into his bikes and likes to tinker with stuff. So I decided that this year, he was getting a vice for Christmas So this freshly restored No.3 now has a new home where it will get used properly, and a new owner who was really quite taken aback and is chuffed to bits
Just the right size. Ive wanted a deeper throat times (fnar fnar) but, its still bolted to the bench 29yrs later.
My next door neightbour has just given me one of these. Slightly rusty but nothing a citric acid bath wont sort out.
Indeed, it does seem just right. I`ve been gifted an earlier one with the patent numbers on the side so that will be getting restored and probably kept. although I do have the #83 too which is smaller jaw, similar opening and Quick release
Overhauled my No.3 a few months back. Put it on Ebay at £40 and never got a bid. It's now sitting under the bench waiting for me to make a set of ring roller wheels to fit on it.
There are always a lot of No.3s on Ebay and prices are all over the place. I'm having a big clear out after Christmas so maybe I'll list it on this forum with the other goodies.
