Record 36 vices and prices....

I have a record 36. It' not in bad condition. Looks to have been stripped and cleaned at some point in the last cople of years and a coat of blue paint lol
Has one jaw missing.
I've seen a few on eBay £150 up over that look worse than mine.
Why are they silly prices?

because they don't know u can get decent 6 inch vices from the autojumbles for up to 65 quid

Not round here. They try & sell them for Ebay, (usually the highest), prices.

I think Winchboy has a spare one he would sell cheap, its all down to what people can afford and whats available on the day

It’s an unbreakable vice still offered for sale over £1000 by Irwin. This may have something in the way of influencing things. Its also one of their best designs imo. Proud owner of a 34P

knock a 0 of the price and its still 40 quid over the odds. ive never broke a vice yet and have given them some stick with a big hammer

I nabbed one off eBay some time ago, I forget the price so I'm just going to say probably £20 and you can sue me for the balance. It was an adventure mind and you can read all about it here: #43

The punchline is, that particular vice got tucked into the corner of a shed, where it still waits to be put into service!

Other than all the Swindens and blacksmith vices I have been through in the meantime, that Record is sitting in a queue right behind a magnificent torpedo shaped Wilton (£40!). I daren't restore that just in case the temptation to sell it becomes overwhelming. That Wilton is a keeper...

I have a fairly decent quick release vice I use and a spare 6 inch and a 4inch vice new . I got them all given cant real say I need another unless its free or for 20 quid

They're only silly prices to tight arses like us. When you consider the quality of most English vices, it's not actually that bad. Few new brands, bar some European ones, have the quality any more. We're just lucky in this country in that our industrial past means we have a glut of old equipment like vices, hence prices are usually quite reasonable. That's the reason why some of the asking prices seem excessive.
