Record 34 or 35 vice question - what stops the sliding jaw from coming out?

Hi,

I'm rebuilding a Record 35 vice with quick release. It all seems to work fine but when I use the quick release the sliding jaw can be pulled too far out of the main housing - it would fall out completely if it weren't for it fouling on the half nut.

I assume I've either rebuilt in incorrectly, or it's missing something. Interestingly, I've seen some models with a long, 3" cylindrical, flanged bush at the back of the main screw but also others without. Mine does not have this part - it has a hole in the shaft of the main screw for a split pin, then a washer, a spring, and then another washer.

If anyone has a similar model and can share pics of the underside, that'd be helpful.

That sounds correct. Post a photo or two of yours.

The 2x series have a big washer that sits on the screw, inboard of the screw's tail bearing in the moving jaw. The washer 'engages' on the half nut housing in the base casting to stop the jaw.
