Recommended step drills?

Used these today to enlarge holes in my compressor frame. 3mm steel approx and each one cut amazing for the first 3 or 4om holes then went blunt



Trash.

Can anyone recommend a decent step drill please? I don't mind paying up to about £30 for one decent one which will last

I've got a cheap set of (I think) AMPro drills off Amazon apart from eventually snapping the shank off the largest I've been impressed.

I think 3mm is the thinnest I've drilled with them, usually more like 10-20mm steel and wood also.

I've had a set of the banggood ones for a year or so and they've been hammered, still mostly cut like new, I've drilled well over the recommended thickness of steel with them, stainless, hard bits where I've welded, they've cut it all. I rarely use lube on them, but do kick down to low speed on the cordless when above 10mm or so.

This was my thinking with the banggood ones. I could buy many of them for the cost of a big brand one, and I know from experience the dear one wouldn't cut any better if I'm rough with it.

I also ordered cutting compound which I didn't have before. I'll still need new step drills as I banjaxed the ones I had

RUKO are supposed to be decent. Run them slow though, nothing kills them quicker than going errr.. quicker.

I had a cheap set from Aldi for about 3 yrs been heavily abused on materials that are too thick without any lubricant, they still cut well, I think you must have a really duff set.

How can you use them for as thick a material as some on here suggest. Surely you can only use them in material smaller than the depth of the step which can't be much more than 3mm on most of them
