That 230amps is only a short duty cycle at best. Even a MB25 at 230 amps gets hot and starts having tip issues. I changed from a MB25 to a MB36 doing around the 220amps and even the MB36 starts having trouble on longer runs. Bigger is best, but that depends upon how much you are doing. When I start I don't want to stop till I want to stop and not be limited by the equipment. The 350 amp machine I have runs a water cooled MB36 as I have had nothing that will work as I need it. The 350 amp machine can output 380amps flat biscuit and with 1.2mm solid wire it is running at that rate . I am limited, by my the 350amp machine but it has been working fine and never thought that I would ever need to go that high.I've got a cheapo MB15 torch on my mig welder, which is capable of 230 amps, so I'm looking to get a bigger torch.
