recommended me a split die set plz

Hi guys

Shopping for a good quality metric tap and die set
Dies must all be split dies

From small to say m12 ish should cover me

Don't want junk nor some £300 set

Just valve for money that I won't regret

Can anyone recommend me a set ??

I dont think middle of the road exists, there is high end and most of the others are the same turds rolled in different glitter.

As you are asking for split dies presumably this is for creating threads rather than cleaning threads up?

If so then your best option is really to buy separates.

Bargains can be had on ebay.

Unless somebody knows otherwise, I just can’t see those being proper Presto items, they must be a made in China budget line?

I’ve just continued buying dies (and taps) piecemeal as I see them, I’ve got a decent collection now of Presto, Dormer, Goliath etc. all of which I’ve picked up for a few quid each, usually brand new on eBay actually.

EDIT: I don’t think the linked ones are split dies anyway....

They sell this in a blue box non split
But the black boxed ones are all split dies

Not saying sealey is any good but its something

I personally don't mind paying upwards of £100 for a good set

For occasional use it will be fine. Carbon steel rather than hss and taper taps only the looks of it though so you won't be able to tap to the bottom of a blind hole.

The tap wrench and die stock will be junk.

Have you priced up buying them individually? As you’re not working on too tight a budget you may be able to just order what you want in one go.

Presto, dormer LAL etc, the full sets do come along now and again, I have two ex MOD Presto sets, basically the Wooden box fitted in a tin box, they are excellent sadly I cant find a metric one only UNC & UNF.
The rest of mine has been made up by buying a big box of stuff keeping what I don't have and selling the rest on.
I do have an Aldi / Lidl cheap set it was about £15 its ideal to get you started then just buy better quality as you find them
