Recommendations for hot water cylinder

I've just discovered that our DHW cylinder has a slight weep from the base. It's a standard vented indirect copper cylinder that's about 17-18 years old. We're in a soft water area. To replace it I'm thinking about going for a stainless steel version of same. Any recommendations on replacement make? I've seen that Kingspan do a range of stainless cylinders - has anyone any experience of them?

Dont bother with stainless for vented

Albion is a good brand but I've fitted loads from screwfix without issue. Just check the connections as they had a load with 1"bsp parallel and they didnt have the end formed for cylinder unions

Any reason why not to bother with stainless for vented? I'd really like this to be the last cylinder I have to fit...

Fitted an Albion Ultrasteel 250 litre indirect unvented a few months back, so far so good. Shop around, there are definitely savings to be made. We found ours with a good £150 off general price. Directheatingsupplies.co.uk was the place we used.

By the way, ask 10 different plumbers which brand and you will get 10 different answers, so just identify the top 5 and find the best deal.

Because it will be stainless steel in name only most likely, we still use copper cylinders for a reason

I take it you mean low grade stainless that just about allows the manufacturer to call it stainless...? I notice that 'stainless' cylinders are now appreciably cheaper than copper on the Screwfix site. And do you need to use Incoloy or similar immersion heaters due to galvanic corrosion between the stainless cylinder and a copper immersion heater?

Unless you spend proper money it will be poor, unvented is a different cylinder, even some of them are poor these days

For soft water get whatever immersion you like, incoloy and titanium are for hard water

All the copper cylinders I've seen recently have been paper-thin. It's almost like the insulation provides most of the structure.

A stainless cylinder will have a specific immersion and not a generic one. Something to bare in mind for future maintenance
